This is my first post of the new year, so I guess it would be appropriate to say Happy New Year! I planned on doing a style post last week, but of course the winter cold caught up with me and I’ve been super under the weather. I have a look to post this week though, no worries! As I said before I am trying to add new ideas into my blog for the New Year. I am going to start adding short monthly book reviews of whatever I am reading at the moment. Reading is SUPER fundamental, and I use to be an avid reader then life happened and all I found myself reading was school books. So to encourage myself to read more, and to encourage my readers to do the same I am going to start reviewing a new book each month! My January #poshread of the month is Sophia Amoruso’s, #GIRLBOSS. Sophia is the founder of the fabulous online store NASTY GAL, the mother of all online stores! If you are into vintage and contemporary style, you have heard of or shopped on I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, because Sophia explained her rise from the bottom to the top with Nasty Gal. My point of doing a book review is not to give away the details of the entire book, because I actually would love for you to read it!

I thought it would be best to discuss the main points I picked up from the book:

-“Be who you want, and do what you want” I believe in this wholeheartedly, and I live my entire life by those two rules. It may take time to figure out exactly what it is you love, and what you’re passionate about but when you do go hard at fulfilling your dreams!

-Never start something with a major end goal in mind! With that being said if you are venturing into something new, JUST DO IT. Do not focus too much on how you envision things to be in the future because you will become caught up in that. Focus on the present and get the job done!

-“Money looks better in the Bank than on your feet” its no use in trying to keep up with the Kardashians! As you’re getting money, invest it back into your business and SAVE SAVE SAVE! Also, while you’re trying to build a business you may have to cut back on the lifestyle you once lived…while you’re grinding!

-Never take the lessons you’ve learned from your present or past job for granted. Whether you’re working in retail, the service industry or elsewhere. Although you may not like your employer and you see yourself doing something greater, view your current situation as a stepping stone.

-“If you’re dreaming big, #GIRLBOSS, don’t be discouraged if you have to start small.” I feel like this simple saying applies to so many. No matter what your goals are, you have to begin somewhere. Taking the first steps to fulfilling your dreams is always the hardest. Although you may not be in your permanent position in life right now, with the right amount of work ethic and perseverance, YOUR time will come. Don’t be afraid of baby steps!

I was most inspired by Chapter 7! Basically emphasizing the fact that it is okay to be different, different is poppin! I would definitely suggest this book to the ladies who need an extra bit of motivation in the right direction, it is a must read. “No matter where you are in life, you’ll save a lot of time by not worrying too much about what other people think about you. The earlier in life that you can learn that, the easier the rest of it will be. You is who you is, so get used to it.” -Sophia Amoruso
